When planning your wedding day in the UK, timing is one of the most important factors to get right. Knowing exactly when each part of your day will happen—and where live wedding music fits in—can make a huge difference to your stress levels and, more importantly, the enjoyment of your guests.
Planning Live Music for Your Wedding
If you’re booking live wedding entertainment for your day, there are a few key points to consider:
Start and finish times – When do you want the music to begin and end?
Performance length – How long do you want the band to play?
Set-up time – Will the band have enough space and time to set up before the performance?
Arrival time – When will the band need to arrive to get everything ready?
Thinking about these in order helps everything run smoothly. The answers will depend on the type of music, the size of the band, the amount of equipment, and whether you’re hiring a separate DJ or AV team.
Our Evening Music Approach & Set Structure
At Electric Ocean, we design our evening wedding music to give your guests the perfect mix of live performance and time to enjoy the party at their own pace. We typically play 3 x 40-minute sets, allowing guests to warm up gradually, mingle, grab drinks, and build energy on the dance floor.
During the evening, we often alternate between a live music set and a DJ break. The length of these DJ breaks depends on your preferred start time and the venue’s curfew, helping to create a seamless flow of entertainment. After our final live set, a DJ or playlist can continue the party into the night.
This structure ensures a professional, high-energy performance while giving everyone a chance to enjoy live wedding music, making Electric Ocean one of the most popular wedding bands in the UK for evening receptions.
For weddings with later curfews, we can also discuss adding extra sets to keep the party going. Hiring a wedding band UK style ensures a professional performance with a mix of live music and DJ support.
Set-Up and Soundcheck
Professional UK wedding bands like ours require around 60–90 minutes to go from an empty room to fully set up and soundchecked. If we’re performing in the same room as the wedding breakfast, we’ll often set up while guests move to a drinks area, ensuring everything is ready for your first set of evening wedding music.
For smaller acoustic sets during a drinks reception, setup is quicker—usually 30–45 minutes.
Meals and Breaks
If evening food is being served to your guests, we advise timing a band break so everyone has a chance to eat and digest before returning to the dance floor. This keeps energy levels high and ensures the party continues smoothly.
Arrival Time
Our standard arrival time is 5pm, giving plenty of time for setup, soundcheck, and preparation. If a later arrival works better for your schedule, we can adapt to suit your needs.
